Birth defects heightened by obesity?

A new study from the University of Texas suggests mothers who are obese before their pregnancy face a higher risk of having babies with birth defects.

The study followed nearly 15,000 women and concluded that about 4% of women who were obese before pregnancy had babies with major birth defects, versus 3% of their slimmer counterparts.

In addition to the other benefits of health diet and exercise, this is just another reason to fight obesity.
